A QUV number by itself proves nothing. "2,000 hours tested" can describe a film that came out of the chamber water-clear or one that finished the color of a smoker's ceiling. The truth lives in the details of the report, so here is how to read one before you order a container of film on the strength of it.
QUV is accelerated weathering in a chamber of fluorescent UV lamps, normally run to the ASTM G154 standard. The common cycle for automotive film alternates 8 hours of UVA-340 light at 60 degrees C with 4 hours of dark condensation at 50 degrees C, punishing the film with sun and dew on repeat. UVA-340 lamps matter because they reproduce the short-wave end of real sunlight, the part that actually breaks polymer bonds.
Start with the lamp type. UVB-313 lamps are harsher than anything the sun delivers at ground level and they correlate poorly with real-world yellowing, so a UVB result tells you little about five summers on a hood. A report that names no lamp at all is worse. Then find the total hours and the cycle. As a rough industry rule of thumb, 1,000 to 2,000 hours of G154 UVA exposure gets compared to about a year outdoors. No honest lab will hand you an exact multiplier, and anyone who does is selling something.
Then check what was actually measured, because "passed" is not a measurement. You want numbers logged at intervals through the run: delta-b for the yellow shift, delta-E for total color change, gloss retention, ideally haze. A clear film holding delta-b under about 1.0 across the full test is film you can put a long warranty behind. A report that only says pass was graded by whoever drew the pass line.
The chemistry underneath is settled science. Aromatic TPU carries ring-structure bonds that absorb UV and break down, so it starts going amber within a few hundred chamber hours. Aliphatic TPU has no such bonds and comes through 2,000 hours still clear, provided the topcoat and adhesive keep up. If a supplier will not say which chemistry is in the roll, the QUV data usually answers for them. We wrote up that split in our aliphatic TPU standard article.
One last thing: confirm whose material was in the chamber. Resin makers publish weathering data for raw polymer, and some factories pass those pages off as testing of the finished film. The report should name the film product, the batch and the lab. It should also cover the full construction with topcoat and adhesive included, because a yellowing glue layer shows straight through a perfect topcoat. Put a tested coupon next to a fresh control sample under daylight. Your eye will catch a shift a summary page leaves out.
