A full colour change takes two to five days in a working shop. Anyone quoting one day is either counting only the squeegee time or is about to cut prep.

Prep is most of the job and it is invisible on the invoice. Wash, decontaminate, clay, then remove what has to come off. Door handles, mirror caps, badges, lights, sometimes bumpers. Every piece removed adds time and every piece left on shows as a cut line the customer will notice from a metre away. On a clean modern sedan with simple trim, prep is half a day. On a car with body kit, aftermarket parts or fifteen years of road grime in the seams, it is a full day before any film is unrolled.

Then the film goes on, panel by panel, and the vehicle decides the pace. Flat doors and a simple hood move fast. Deep bumper recesses, mirror housings, spoiler undersides and door jambs do not. A two-door coupe with smooth panels can be a two-day car. A large SUV with roof rails, running boards and complex bumpers is four or five.

Post-heating is the step nobody outside the trade knows exists, and it is the difference between a job that lasts and one that lifts. Every stretched area and wrapped edge has to be heated to the film manufacturer's spec after it is laid, which resets the material so it stops wanting to creep back. Skipping it saves an hour today and costs a callback in month six.

Environment sets the floor on time. Film goes down in an enclosed, dust-controlled bay at a controlled temperature. Working outdoors or in an open mechanic shop means contamination under the film within days, so the honest schedule assumes indoor bay time you cannot compress.

The practical way to quote is by hours, not by car. Count prep hours from a walk-around, add install hours by panel complexity, add post-heat, add reassembly. Give the customer a range and tell them what moves it. Customers accept a four-day job explained in advance. They do not accept a two-day job that becomes four.

One more thing worth saying out loud. Cheap film adds hours, because it fights every curve. If your quote is tight on time, the material is the last place to save. The arithmetic is in what cheap wrap really costs a shop.

We manufacture cast colour-change wrap factory-direct, built to lay into recesses without a fight. Ask for the colour range and a wholesale quote.

FAQ

How long does it take to wrap a car?
Two to five days for a full colour change. A simple coupe is two, a large SUV with complex bumpers and roof rails is four or five. Partial wraps and single panels are same-day work.

Why does wrapping take so long?
Prep and disassembly are half the job. Wash, decontaminate, clay, and remove handles, mirrors, badges and lights so there are no visible cut lines. Then post-heating every stretched area after install.

Can a car be wrapped in one day?
Only partial coverage or a single panel. A one-day full wrap means prep was skipped or edges were trimmed instead of wrapped, and both show up as lifting within months.
