A 10-year warranty on paint protection film means the maker will stand behind defects in the film for ten years. It does not promise the film survives a decade of anything, and an installer who sells it that way is setting up a callback.

A warranty covers defects, not wear. The years refer to failures caused by the film itself: yellowing, cracking, bubbling, delamination and loss of adhesion. Rock chips, impact damage, scratches from a bad wash and plain abuse are wear. No serious PPF warranty pays for those.

Read what the document actually lists. A real warranty names the failure modes it covers and the ones it excludes. HIGHCOOL PPF warranties run by series:

Series TPU Thickness Warranty
W15 / W17 Wanhua 7.5 mil / 8.5 mil 5 years
V15 / V17 Covestro 7.5 mil / 8.5 mil 7 years
V19 Covestro 9.5 mil 8 years
E15 / E17 BASF 7.5 mil / 8.5 mil 8 years
L15 / L17 Lubrizol 7.5 mil / 8.5 mil 10 years
V23PRO Covestro 11.5 mil 10 years

So "10 years" on our range means the L series or V23PRO. Our matte V15MA and gloss black V15BK carry 5 years. The warranty covers film defects: yellowing, staining, hydrolysis or the film breaking down. It does not cover installation issues such as bubbles, dust or creases, or damage from use. If a warranty is vague about what it covers, take that as a warning.

Then check who honors it and how. Ask whether it is prorated or full replacement, whether it pays the labor to strip and re-wrap or only sends a new roll, and who processes the claim: the installer, a distributor or the factory. A long number on the box with no claims process behind it is worth very little. Traceability helps here. Every HIGHCOOL roll carries its own serial code, so a claim can be tied to the exact roll that went on the car.

The warranty is a floor. What keeps film clear is the material. Our PPF grades are built on TPU from Lubrizol, BASF, Covestro or Wanhua. The Lubrizol, BASF and Covestro grades use Ashland adhesive. The Wanhua grade uses a domestic adhesive. All of them carry a self-healing topcoat. Good film rarely needs the warranty, and that is the reason to buy it.

Set the expectation with your customer on day one. The warranty covers manufacturing defects for its term. It will not stop them chipping a bumper on the highway. Said that way at the counter, it saves you an argument two years later. Windshield film has its own terms and failure modes. HIGHCOOL windshield protection film is launching on the site soon, and you can ask us about it now; for how the category works, see our guide to windshield protection film for installers.

To read the full terms for each grade and see what is in stock, go to our Paint Protection Film (PPF) collection, or request free A4 samples (you pay shipping) on the wholesale and sample page.

FAQ

What does a 10-year PPF warranty actually cover?
It covers defects in the film, such as yellowing, cracking, bubbling, delamination and adhesion loss, for the stated term. It does not cover rock chips, scratches or impact damage. Those count as wear, not manufacturing defects.

Does PPF really last 10 years?
Good film often does, but the warranty term is not a lifespan guarantee. It is how long the maker backs the film against defects. Real-world life depends on UV exposure, wash habits and topcoat quality.

What should I check in a PPF warranty before buying?
Check which failures are covered, especially yellowing, and whether the warranty is prorated or full replacement. Ask if labor is included and who processes the claim. A long term with no claims process behind it means little.
